OVERVIEW

Calvin advises and represents companies and individuals in commercial litigation, labor and employment, personal injury, and collection related matters in both state and federal court.  

Calvin has a broad range of complex litigation experience, including in the areas of business litigation, consumer and regulatory claims (i.e., TCPA, FDCPA, and consumer fraud), partnership disputes, fiduciary duties, contractual disputes, fraud, unfair competition, business torts, trade secrets, and defamation.  His practice also encompasses labor and employment disputes, including wage & hour violations, misclassification cases, discrimination and harassment allegations, as well as wrongful termination and whistleblower complaints.

He also specializes in all aspects of collections-related disputes from pre-judgment litigation to post-judgment enforcement.  He has successfully litigated and collected monies for his clients involving a wide array of industries and disputes, including healthcare, credit cards, bank loans, and various secured and unsecured transactions.

Calvin has successfully tried cases before judges, juries, and arbitrators. He also teaches “The Art of Trial Law” at the University of California, Irvine.  Before founding Love Law, P.C., Calvin was an Associate at Vedder Price (CA), LLP in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group.  Previously, he was an Associate in the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, LLP.

Verdicts & Settlements

October 2024 - Whistleblower Retaliation, Harrassment, and Wrongful Termination: Secured a 10.7 million jury verdict after a two-week jury trial in Orange County Superior Court. Represented a plaintiff against a prominent Newport Beach medical spa.

October 2024 - Wage & Hour Class Action & PAGA Bench Trial: In a four-day PAGA bench trial in Orange County, unveiled widespread timekeeping and payroll fraud by the CEO of a major electrical subcontractor. This case exposed millions in potential liability and established substantial grounds for further penalties. The Court has scheduled post-trial briefing for closing arguments.

May 2022 - Defamation Case Against Government Agency: Achieved a $650,000 settlement on behalf of a plaintiff in a defamation lawsuit against a governmental entity, securing the resolution one week before trial.

January 2021 - Whistleblower Retaliation, Age Discrimination, and Wrongful Termination: Obtained a $285,000 settlement for an executive client in a lawsuit against a high-profile diamond manufacturer

December 2019 - Cannabis Dispensary Ownership Dispute: Trial counsel in a 5 day arbitration before an ADR Arbitrator involving a complex ownership dispute involving a cannabis dispensary. The arbitration resulted in the opposing parties being deemed non-prevailing.

February 2019 - Nationwide Class Action on Alleged Student Loan Misrepresentations: Lead attorney in a nationwide class action with claims exceeding billions, representing a student loan servicer accused of misrepresentation. Successfully defeated class certification and obtained summary judgment.

May 2018 - Commercial Business Dispute: Trial counsel in a 4 day bench trial in Los Angeles Superior Court, winning a complete verdict for a denim manufacturer in a high-stakes business dispute with a retail denim brand, securing a full damages award and victory on cross-claims exceeding $300,000.

November 2016 - Conservatorship Jury Trial: Trial counsel in a 5 day jury trial involving a conservatorship dispute in San Diego Superior Court - obtained a unanimous favorable verdict securing conservatorship for the County of San Diego.
